San Diego is not only one of Southern California’s largest cities, it is also a bustling seaport for Navy vessels as well as private and commercial watercraft. On a night-walk beside the harbor along a wide thoroughfare, I was intrigued by the variety of artificial lights on the boats and down the shoreline, and the silhouetted and partially visible forms of the boats on the water. The scene seemed to be a warm-toned abstract painting punctuated by spots, streaks and pinpoints of light.
In painting the scene, my intention was to stay true to my first impression.
