Evening Choir

I've participated in the Maui Plein Air Invitational 3 times, and each time headed for the Kapalua coast on the northwest side of the island, to paint the waves, rock textures, and light effects always visible in this region of the island. We had just been out to the "Dragon's Teeth" and were coming across the golf course out on the point as the sun was going down. In the pristine atmosphere, and with high clouds, this scene begged to be painted. 

The colors are blue and gold, the colors of heaven. The painting captures the moment when the sun touched the horizon.

What I intended in the work was the evoking of a sense of awe, at the vastness and beauty of the universe, as when one is deeply moved to appreciate the unique qualities of the span of each day.

I once had the opportunity to hear a boys choir in Westminster Abbey: as I stood here, on this tropical shore, above the sound of the waves I again heard that choir.
