Beach Trail Sunset, At Seal Rock

Last afternoon I was plein air painting on San Clemente's Beach Trail. As the sun went down below the horizon, the light dimmed, and the most beautiful scene, featuring a single wave, appeared like magic--a softness and warmth that was truly unusual, with both Catalina and Seal Rock visible in the distance. Capturing a "feeling" or evoking an emotion in an artwork is not always easy, but this painting was "telling me what to do" through the process.
