What is a Gicleé?
Now it is possible to acquire a fine art reproduction that has the look and feel of an original.
As a product of the most recent technological advances in reproducing art images, the gicleé (jee-CLAY) comes the closest in capturing the rich color, texture, fine detail, and subtle nuances of original art. This creative technique utilizes digital imaging to to produce the truest reproduction in the history of printmaking.
Highly saturated lightfast inks create over 9 million colors on a handmade, archival-quality acid-free paper. Digital information from either a scan of the original painting or a transparency made from the painting is input directly into an Iris printer. This technology eliminates the need for separate color plates that are used in the traditional lithographic method. The printer delivers a fine spray of ink onto the paper, more than a million micro droplets per second. Each droplet is four times smaller than a human hair. Four precision nozzles cover a sheet of archival watercolor paper, each print appearing complete over a period of several minutes or even hours. After printing, the reproduction is protected by applying an ultraviolet coating over the entire work.
Talon Graphics, fine art printmakers and serigraphers have produced these prints from a scan of my original paintings. The atelier has color corrected the pieces to ensure faithfulness to the colors of the original. For protection and permanence, printmakers recommend the use of plexiglass in framing, and the hanging of work in an area which receives only subdued light, never direct lighting. It is my wish that you will enjoy these quality fine art reproductions for many years.
