During the months of January and February, the nine artists selected by the judging panel of this nationally-renown arts-oriented church presented an exhibit of their works focusing on the meaning of Christmas. Rick submitted a 30x40 painting, the largest in the show, depicting the birth of Christ and entitled "Sonrise, Luke 1:76-79".
2008 Borrego Springs Plein Air Invitational
Dates: March 16-22
Rick received the Best of Show award at this gathering of 27 nationally-recognized plein air painters, sponsored by the Borrego Art Institute and others. The event opened with a two-hour quick-draw in the area surrounding the visitor's center. As we painted the desert during the week, two exhibits of the paintings were scheduled, at the Old Desert Club and at the DeAnza Country Club. Two of Rick's paintings were initiated during the twelve-hour expedition into the desert in two overland vehicles. The final paintings in pastel, watercolor, acrylic and oils displayed at the closing event, the Gala, were stunning--each artist brought a unique perspective to his/her work. The juror was Jean Stern, director of the Irvine Museum.
2008 San Clemente Art Association Spring Juried Show
Dates: February 17-April 4
Rick was awarded first place, Landscape category, with his acrylic painting entitled "Hana Coast", from his series of paintings done in Maui this past summer. The exhibit opened at the Gallery on Avenida Del Mar in San Clemente( next to library)- The show continues until April 4th , hours are 1-4 pm daily.
Delanty Drawing Workshop at the Casa Romantica in San Clemente

The course is entitled "Imagine Yourself Drawing, at the Casa"
Focus will be on thinking differently in order be able to draw both objectively and creatively. Ten basic principles of drawing will serve as the foundation of the class. A positive critique of classwork will conclude the course, with an in-house display of drawings done over the three-week period. The course is $50 for teens, and $75 for adults.
2008 Southern California Plein Air Painters Association Juried Exhibition and Sale

Rick's painting, "Bright Day, San Clemente State Park," was selected from 271 entries for the exhibition of 60 works, to be displayed at the Barracks Gallery at the San Juan Capistrano Mission. Show opens Friday April 4th, with an awards reception from 6-8 pm. Admission to Mission $6.
"Paint San Clemente," 7th Plein Air Competition
One hundred painters will be participating in this competition, with over $13,000 in prizes and awards being offered. First place award is $5,000. A "quick-draw" event will open the competition at the Community Center at the intersection of Del Mar and Seville. At 1:30, painters will find a subject to paint, complete their paintings, and have them framed and ready for display and sale by 3:30. During the rest of the week, painters will canvass San Clemente seeking and painting subjects for their work. All entries will be turned in Saturday, June 21, between 8 and 9 am on the Community Center lawn, where the public will be able to view their display. That afternoon, on the 21st, several of the artists will also be representing their work at outdoor booths on the Community Center lawn, where the public will be able to view and purchase their paintings. That evening, also on the 21st, awards will be presented to the winning artists, and a silent auction of paintings featuring "the Spanish Village" of San Clemente will be conducted. 2008 Delanty Home Studio Annual Summer Show at the Delanty Gallery

Recent paintings, both local and non-local, will be featured at this year's show and sale. Show dates are Friday through Sunday, June 27-29. Typically, the display showcases 50-70 originals, with an opportunity to purchase or commission works depicting the Southern Orange County region. Refreshments will be served-- RSVP not required.
